March 7 - 8, 2011 - Columbus, Ohio

Over the years, this premier event has brought campus administrators and safety professionals from around the world together for what has been labeled some of the best (low cost) professional training of any other campus safety related conference. No others can give you what we do for the cost. We are the only “One-Stop-Shop” conference.

The purpose of this annual event is to provide high-quality education, technology and networking opportunities for campus safety/security professionals. Our multiple day, multiple track format offers a self-directed, facilitated learning environment with education sessions, interactive forums, and extensive exhibition.

Our education sessions focus on current and emerging issues, best practices, and challenges facing those responsible for managing Fire Safety, Security, Greek Life, Emergency Medical Services, Laboratory Safety, & Risk Management. Presentations are designed for all levels of experience - from fundamental to intermediate to advanced topics

Many small campuses are challenged with all safety aspects being under one department and a limited staff. We are proud to provide the forum to bring you all of those challenges under one roof. No other conference will allow you the chance to sit through a presentation on fire safety, only to proceed to the next one on security issues, followed by a discussion on fire alarm maintenance problems in a residence hall, then laboratory safety, to fire code requirements for fire extinguishers.

Our presenters are from all over the country, many of which are still active safety professionals on their campus today. Please see our conference schedule and presentation information located at the top of the page for additional information.

Our signature "One-Stop-Shop" entitles you to all you will need for one low price; Hotel Monday Night, All Meals, Programs, Events and Hospitality.

2011 Conference Educational Highlights:

  • Along with the large number of workshops and breakout sessions scheduled, we are specifically working on programming to provide you with information concerning grants. What monies are out there your campus may be eligible for. How to write grants. What are keywords and how to get the most out of our grant application.

  • The Campus Fire Safety Right-to-Know Act - signed into law by then President Bush this law is designed to increase fire safety awareness on college/university campuses across the nation by providing students and their families with the fire safety records of colleges/universities. This act was designed to require post-secondary institutions to publicly display fire safety information and statistics, much as they already do with other safety statistics, such as campus theft and assault. This information would inform prospective and current students of the policies, concerns and fire safety conditions that are present at the institution in which they have applied or are enrolled. Note - This law was discussed at our last conference, but this topic will return by popular demand in 2011

  • Fire Protection 101 One of our signature presentations is an overview of the latest standards regarding the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Fire Protection Equipment. Included but not limited to: NFPA 72 (Fire alarms), NFPA 10 (Fire extinguishers) and NFPA 25 (Water based fire protection) as in previous conferences this topic will return by popular demand in 2011

  • H.R. 2136: Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones College Fire Prevention Act
March 19, 2010 - the US House of Representatives passed the Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones College Fire Prevention Act.  The late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones introduced the same bill in each of the last four sessions of Congress. The bill directs the Secretary of Education to make competitive grants to colleges, fraternities, and sororities for up to half the cost of installing and modernizing fire prevention and sprinkler systems in student and fraternal housing, with dedicated funding for minority-serving institutions and fraternities/sororities. The bill has been co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of 47 lawmakers, endorsed by national fire prevention organizations and over 100 fraternities and sororities. Companion legislation has been introduced in the Senate by Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown.

    - CFS Has been in discussion with both of these representatives offices and has extended an invite for both of these Representatives to participate in our conference as we discuss legislative issues.
  • The Campus Fire Safety Education Act of 2010 was recently introduced in both houses of Congress respectively by Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (NJ) and U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-8). The bills, S. 3142/ H. R. 4908, will help provide fire safety education and training to students attending institutions of higher education. Establishing a new $25 million competitive grant program to initiate, expand or improve fire safety education programs at institutions of higher education. Priority would be given to programs that include educational material specifically prepared for students with disabilities.
